mexec memo June 2024

I have called this year’s May ‘Mad May’. Every group seemed to have some sort of event across Australia and globally. It is great to see the activity and opportunities for discussions and collaborations across the sector.

I have been privileged to be part of the AusBiotech Catalyst working group focused on the cell and gene therapy developments for Australia. We have to do something to make this sector progress so that we can all access these life-changing new technologies. Keep an eye out for a survey that will be coming out soon, and please contribute your voice to the discussions.

Cheers
Marilyn Jones

Static Bio24 Wrap Up
BIO2024

What a fabulous week of ‘connecting people for success’ for mexec and the Australian biotechnology and pharmaceutical community.

From company visits in San Diego with MTPConnect, to a bit of touring and then into the main BIO2024 event.

Thanks to Global Victoria and team, and all the Aussie delegates for making it my best BIO ever. Hope to see you at BIO2025 in Boston

Static mexec week wrap up
mexec strategy week

The mexec team was together recently to talk about how to move mexec forward. Every day had something different!

Day 1
Marketing strategy day with Marstr Consulting – Hopefully our messaging and our vision of connecting people for success is impactful.

Day 2
Site visits and catching up with our clients Tecan and Immuron. Thanks for working with us!

Day 3
Our team undertook training at the ANDHealth CHICC site. Thanks for the great facility! The Victorian Government facility allows free usage for businesses in the sector.
Anna McCrossin-Owen, voice coach to the stars (yes she is!) was fabulous as she spent 4 hours training us on our voices, coaching us on how to improve our pitch and to make ourselves feel more confident in our roles. Thoroughly recommend her for training!

Day 4
We spent a day at the RCSA Australia and New Zealand X-Day conference, hearing speakers on all things Recruitment. It was great to hear about the trends in the industry and the world outside our sector. It’s good to check in on whether we are doing things right or better than the market and to keep in touch about trends.

ANDHealth Summit – Digital Health: Hype or Here to Stay?

One of the biggest takeaways from many of the sessions was that collaboration is key to success and that the right people make it happen.
There are not enough Ai scientists to address the projects currently existing and more needs to be done to develop AI skills in the sector!

Cell and Gene Therapy Day

Organised by Melbourne Academic Centre for Health (MACH)

Great to see more collaboration across the sector and shared interests, and a community willing to work together to grow our collective capabilities to deliver innovative and high-quality advanced Cell and Gene therapies.

An analysis of the logistics and challenges around quality assurance and testing that don’t exist in Australia, as well as the scale of the team needed to deliver the therapies, was presented.

AusMedtech

Two days of insights into the medical devices sector, its growth, how investment happens and the regulatory and clinical research space. It’s great to connect with the Australian clinical trials sector over a fabulous meal the night before as well!
The sector has a great energy around it and it’s a great time to be part of the sector as it grows!

Great to undertake our now annual presentation to Masters students at the University of Melbourne with Professor Jen Martin.

The students gained insight into career journeys, which are often not linear, the variety of roles available outside of academia and how to present a quality CV and cover letter to get the initial engagement with hiring managers.
